You Majored in What? Ch 4

"Your love of learning could make you a valuable employee"

This applies to me very much. I love learning. It is a true passion. Yesterday was the first day of my internship for Musee Magazine. I did not know what i was doing in the beginning of the day and made a fool of myself. It was obvious that i was absolutely lost the whole time but i was afraid to admit to it because i didnt want to be sent away. So the whole time i didnt complain or reveal my confusion, i made sure i listened to everyone that was said and peeked at other peoples computers and I LEARNED WHAT TO DO. Being very analytical helped. At the end of the day i went up to the woman i had no idea about a thing i was doing and she said "i know, but you did great".

"there is little correlation between your college grade point average and the salary you recieve or how successful you are in your career."

I think this is very important to understand. There alot of very smart people who dont understand this and are disallussioned. Life is one big gamble. Doesnt matter if you have your masters.

"regardless of your majors relevance to your future, it contains vast amont of information ready to be mined".

There are people who i know wont care about a class or will talk to the teacher rudely about how the class provides nothing for them. This is a wrong way of thinking. this is because no matter what you do you are also learning. this is becasue you are always living and gaining new experiences. No matter if the class you take doesnt matter to you or apply to your life goals. you will learn a new way of thinking or even learn the skill of dealing with what you cant change.

the most important point this site brung up was to research about the company you are applying for. This is very important because it makes you look more interested and aware of what you are doing. It also flatters the interviewer.

http://www.ehow.com/how_1721_prepare-job-interview.html

This site seems alittle stalker-ish BUT if you want the job that bad might as well go all the way. So, this is a good site to look through if you are desperate or it is the job of your dreams.

http://www.interviewcoach.com/

this is a very specific site and if you need "coaching" as it says than this is the site for you. Only it kind of makes me alittle nervous to read it. It makes job interviews seem almost nerve racking. They ARE important but you shouldnt be afraid of them...

You Majored in What? Chapter Three

"acquiring a lot of knowledge and information without thinking of its value"

I found this quote to be very important because this is what most people do. This is also what people must snap out of. Information should be acquire with intention to be able to use it, otherwise it is time wasted. I have learned to enjoy classes that i normally wouldnt by thinking to myself "how will i use this information?, will this ever come in handy?" and most times i find a reason to not waste my time in class texting.

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change" -Wayne Dyer

I absolutely agree with this quote. I have come to this conclusion many times in my life. This is because i have done alot of traveling. When i leave dreary new york excited to be free and looking down upon all the pollution and crowdedness to go to a small countryside, i come back excited as if i were  tourist and actually appreciating what is around me. It looks so much different because instead of dreading new york i began to miss it, so i saw it in another light.

"Taking yourself too serously..." is "...the greatest stumbling block to creativity"

I must follow this quote. I have always been very creative. I painted and wrote poems at a very young age. I have noticed that i do my best work when i feel light hearted. I do my worst work under pressure and when i critique myself too much. This is because i begin to put weight on y self-confidence and it tends to weaken. I am my own worst enemy.

You Majored in What? Chapter Two

"the more you know about different disciplines and are able to see the connections between those disciplines, the more you are able to create innovative solutions to problems."

I have believed this ever since I was a little girl. If i know about everything than i can do almost everything on my own. It is better to understand more than you need so that you can do more with your knowledge. I am very headstrong and would rather not ask anyone for help. i like getting things done on my own. so i like filling myself with as much knowlegde as possible so i can connect things that would normally have nothing to do with eachother, further my work with new energy and different ideas, and be able to do it all on my own.

"self-discovery requires time and focus."

Considering my lack of patience this is something i need to learn and accept. I want to know myself already or even speed up the process of finding myself. I do no know what it will take to find myself but i want to find it already. I have always been in a rush to success. Sometimes i just need to slow down and just let some things happen on their own. But they say things dont just come to you , you have to go get them. Which one do i follow?

"Creativity is connecting the unconnected"

I absolutely agree with this.  for example people who can master mixed media. to incorporate collage and painting. or painting and some sort of photography. This is connecting things that arent normally connected. This is truly creative because not everyone thinks to do these things so it makes you stand out. also you can come up with ideas that have never been done before.

Ideal Cover Letter Resources

http://jobsearch.about.com/od/coverletters/a/aa030401a.htm

This link is resourceful because it gives you the choice of different kinds of cover letters. There could be many resons for you to write a cover letter. It may be that you already have been hired or to get the job. I like this site because it fits for more than one kind of employment situation and gives you examples of each.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/susanadams/2011/03/24/how-to-write-a-cover-letter/

This link is helpful because it not only give you direction to writing a cover letter it speaks to you in narrative almost, because she tells the reader her own experience and sympathizes with them. AND it also tells you what NOT TO SAY OR WRITE. and in reading the site i relaized i did many of the NOT TO DO things.

http://www.englishlink.com/en-us/free-english-tools/create-cover-letter.aspx

This link is reliable because of the way the information is put out. It is put out to the reader in sections with a few lines to sum up the title of that section. Very simple reader and in my opinion (the way i like it) straight the point. Hearing about your experiences were great but i have to get this done by a deadline. Just give me the info so i can run with it....

ENFJ The giver and inspirer

ENFJ
89% extraverted
25% intuitive
38% feeling
1% judging

My results to the Myers-Brigg's Personality test are somewhat correct. I know i am extraverted and i know i am very little judging. I also know i am more feeling than intuitive. I am happy with my results and feel they fit my personality well.

"ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it's usually not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.
ENFJs are global learners. They see the big picture. The ENFJs focus is expansive. Some can juggle an amazing number of responsibilities or projects simultaneously. Many ENFJs have tremendous entrepreneurial ability. "

I am happy that i am an ENJF and the description i was given. I am always told i have "tremendous charisma" and i can tend to be manipulating verabally. but like the description said, not in a bad way. I tend to try to steer people on a prosperous or healthy path. I love when people succeed in  their lives. It also makes me happy to see others happy. i want to help people find their happiness. and by a few good words (verbal manipulation) or some good advice you can send someone to do something great.

On the other hand i do not agree with many of the careers the Myer-Briggs test provided for me. The only that i would enjoy is some kind of social worker. such as, a counselor, social worker, or psychologist. the only problem with those is that i do not have the patience or care to go to school for more than four years.. atleast not right now. I want to live my life first.

The career results said i would also said that i would prosper in politics. I do n ot believe this at all. but obviously i will never know. i HATE politics.

You Majored in What? Chapter One

"...linear thinking can keep you from thinking broadly about your options and being open-minded to new oppurtunities." page 4

I absolutely believe and understand this quote but it is not easy to go on with your life and accepting the possibility of change when your whole family looks to you asking about "your plan". What do you tell them? Maybe, you will tell them about the book You Majored in What or you will keep it secret. But when you have to give your parents constant reports on your life it truly hurts to disappoint them with, "we all live in a world of chaos and I will be successful and have a career by taking hold of this chaotic world and controlling what it offers and what oppurtunities it presents, I do not know what will become of me but I do know what I am good at and that is good enough for me". I cant just say that... or.... can I?

"...a common myth that your degree equals your earning power."

Most people believe this and even take it as fact. it has been instilled in peoples minds for hundreds of years. Ofcourse, I KNOW this is not true. You can have a PhD or doctorate or WHATEVER. but it doesnt mean you will be making hundreds of thousands. it all depends upon where you are and if where you are has a demand for your line of work.

"...go with the flow of your job search instead of wanting to force and control everything."

I MUST learn this. I know i am supposed to have a job and i am supposed to be doing great in school. That i push it so hard that most cases the odds work against me. I must learn to carry out my duty with a more relaxed state of mind. My biggest fear is failing that i stress myself beyond belief and to tears so that i CANNOT fail. But i am smart and strong. i should trust myself that because my biggest fear is failure that i wont let it happen. When i step back from an issue i realize this. BUT i never realize i need to relax when it is most important.

My Ideal Career. (survey review)

As an individual my ideal career would be one that shows visible results. I want a feeling of accomplishment. Ofcourse, I would prefer having visible results when I achieve something because my dream career is to be a photographer. If my achievements are not visible than I am not achieving much because there are no photographs to prove it.
I have also had a history of nasty and unfair boss's/supervisors. I would prefer someone who is willing to understand their employees and is considerate of the work that is put into their company/business. There is nothing wrong with being told what to do, but, I must draw the line when my freedom of being who I want to be is taken away.
A certainty that I would like to have is knowing I have the security of a long lasting job/career. When holding the responsiblities of a home, car, and family the hardship of being layed off or fired is dangerous. You can lose everything you have. Though photography is based on your talent and spontaneity it is possible to find something strong and long lasting.
The most important part of my dream career to contribute beauty to the worl around us. As an artist this is my passion. Using artwork (mainly photography) to jump start new ways of thinking and to broaden peoples horizons. Even a photograph of the elegance in fashion on a billboard for all of the city to see is making the world a more beautiful place.
Something that I would hear my father complain about all the time is economic return. The idea that you work so much and there is no play. You were for thousands a year and cannot enjoy it. It is all wasted in rent, bills, and many other necessities. Though it may not be a waste because it is a living, I would like a career where I work hard daily but I can make enough money to live well off with a family and enjoy the occasional vacation. One should be able to bask in their hard work and feel the fruits of their labor.
Lastly, I can work with a constant routine, but I would love to have constant changing and new energy. Stagnant energy flow is a bore and tiring. It is much like a stagnant body of water. Over time is develops bacteria, algae, and turns green. I do not want this to happen to me, literally. I am constantly on the move. I need constantly changing and new flows of energy.
